My CD/DVD RW Drive keeps on disappearing and reappearing!!?

My CD/DVD RW Drive keeps on disappearing and reappearing! When I click computer all I can see is the hard drive and the sharing folders, what can I do to fix this? I have a Toshiba(windows vista basic).
